Following the recommendations of a study commission of the IOC Centennial Olympic Congress in 1994, a Women and Sport Working Group was established in 1995 by the IOC President to advise the Executive Board on suitable policies to be implemented in this field. It became a fully fledged commission in March 2004. This Commission, like all IOC commissions and working groups, is a consultative body composed of the three components of the Olympic Movement (IOC, IFs and NOCs) as well as representatives of athletes, of the International Paralympic Committee and independent members. It meets once a year.
